Taylor brings a delightful story that blends fun and life lessons in his latest children’s picture book. Bentley, a black-and-white puppy, Betty, and Mr. Bee, a bumble bee, are the best of friends. When Betty gets a monumental school assignment, Bentley knows he must help his bestest non-furry human friend. Soon, he comes up with a plan and the trio begin their quest to complete the assignment. This children’s story is straightforwardly told in rhyming verse. Adventurous, charismatic Bentley is endearing and takes center stage throughout. Taylor’s rhyming, vivid text effectively conveys Bentley’s energy and spontaneity, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with each dramatic page turn. Eunhye Shin makes lovely use of color. Her pastel palette beautifully contrasts against the more muted backgrounds, and her colorful illustrations depict the animals in pastel hues and with alert, delighted expressions. The dialogue is fun and entertaining, and every new animal is introduced in wonderfully detailed language. The stated lesson is that “teamwork is the way to go if you want to achieve your goal faster.” Additional activities include spotting an African violet and a little cardinal in the pages. A sure bet for a kid-approved storytime.
