QUANTUM CONSEQUENCE
a Tale of Physics, Lust and Greed
Mike Murphey
Coming soon
Murphey returns to his A Tale of Physics, Lust and Greed universe for an entertaining and spectacularly intricate sequel that also functions well as a standalone. In I Love Lucy Universe, ten-year-old Baptiste Bedeau struggles with his timid mother and her abusive partner. With the help of Marta Hamilton and Marshall Grissom, Cecil Torgenson secures temporary custody for Baptise. But when Cecil dies under suspicious circumstances, Marta and Marshall must protect the young boy. Meanwhile in another part of the universe, Gillis, Elvin, and Lexi question their involvement in the assassination business. In the Death Valley Days Universe, President Humphollar has disappeared and Kendra Granger is the only one with knowledge of the time travel project. Among all the upheaval, HPE EX235, a twelfth-generation 150-core supercomputer, seeks to cause chaos and rise to power through humanity’s conflicts. Using an omniscient present-tense narrative, Murphey skillfully navigates through various timelines, alternate universes, and character perspectives to weave a complex time travel story. The prose is straightforward yet effective in establishing the details of the plot and introducing the diverse cast of characters, both old and new. While the speculative element is integral to the action, it never overshadows the human aspect, as Murphey crafts strong and nuanced characterization. Each character, whether a fellow time traveler, AI, or a regular human, is portrayed with their own strengths, weaknesses, and moral complexities that inevitably lead to conflicts among them. A finely constructed, wry, and fun SF read.
