Teen author Southworth makes her debut in fiction world with this witty, engrossing tale of sibling rivalries and love. With Camille, the oldest sister, gone to college, it’s just the overly responsible seventeen-year-old Matthew and the mischievous 8-year-old Aaliyah at home with their parents. Matthew wants nothing to do with his baby sister who gets her kicks out of making others’ lives hell. Meanwhile, Matthew’s stressed-out girlfriend, Delaney, has her hands full as she tries to deal with her own little sister Mindy. When Aaliyah and Mindy join hands, the older siblings’ world comes crashing down. The relationship between the three siblings is etched in reality with Matthew very much a teen and Camille, a twenty-one-year-old adult ready to make something out of her life. Delaney is adorable, and Mindy leaves her mark despite her limited part in the story. Aaliyah’s destructive shenanigans and her mother’s over-the-top indulgences may occasionally get on readers’ nerves. However, these challenging moments are balanced by many hilarious situations and leavened by the rich emotional entanglements of the Harper family. The children will be enthralled and the teens with younger siblings will find the story relatable.
