Weber’s final installment in the BetterWorld trilogy shines with expert pacing, multifaceted characters, and provocative scientific speculation. Kiyoko is determined to free Waylee, but the bigger challenge for the group is to bring down President Rand and MediaCorp. With MediaCorp on its path to controlling people’s minds through cerebral implants, the group must find a way to penetrate the corporation’s network and expose their dirty deeds. But with high surveillance and authorities on their trail, the group must tread safely. Weber skillfully takes a grim look at a futuristic earth where technology has overpowered people’s lives, and the blurred line between morality and science is disappearing rapidly. High anticipation combines with expertly crafted twists and tension-filled narrative to keep the pages flying. Readers will appreciate the mix of fast-paced action thriller and SF intrigue, a blend of high action and tender emotions, in which duty and responsibility are placed ahead of personal desires. Weber is excellent when it comes to drawing an entertaining cast of complex characters grappling with questions of free will and morality while raising thought-provoking and philosophical questions. Readers hungry for rip-roaring, exciting thrills of gracefully crafted cyberpunk fiction need look no further.
