Datta’s debut is a confident beginning to a marvelous SF series. Struggling with the tragic loss of his childhood friend, the genius Vincent Abajian has thrown himself into his work at his center at an AI facility. But when he meets Philip Nardin, a time-turbulence survivor, he finds himself entangled in a sinister political conspiracy. Utilizing Philip’s aid and his own hidden power, Vincent sets on to create a time-turbulence and bring his friend back. Datta ably opens the reader’s mind to various alternate realities while creating intricate, plausible near-futuristic setting. There is sharp observation, tight plotting, and compelling characters in Vincent, Elise, Akane, Amika, and Philip. Datta enlivens his protagonists’ lives with interesting detail, making them remain richly engaging for the reader. Vincent’s journey to free Akane is gripping, and readers will find themselves rooting for him throughout the narrative. The book is both intriguing and meticulously executed, and Datta is skilled when it comes to employing the time-travel tropes. The near-future technology is conceivable, the concepts of Artificial Intelligence and physics are plausibly presented, and the suggestion of time-turbulence fascinates. An intelligent, transporting time-travel tale brimming with music, ideas, emotion, imagination, and possibility. This is a stunner.
