Cash proves himself to be a gifted storyteller who makes it thrillingly easy for readers to fall under his spell as he weaves a compelling tale of gothic horror in his latest novel. When Allison Russo, Paul Russo’s wife, dies of cancer, the latter finds his life turning upside down. With three young children’s responsibility on his shoulder, Paul knows he has no option but to keep living. But things take a strange turn when he takes on the real estate listing of Stillwell Manor, an old haunted mansion on the north shore of Long Island. As he begins to look into the mansion’s history, he unravels a shocking secret. Paul must prepare himself for an epic showdown with an ancient demon if he wants a sense of normalcy back in his life. Cash creates a dark, eerie atmosphere within the walls of Stillwell Manor from the start, layering in chilling details as Paul finds himself entangled in the mysteries of its tortured past. Though Allison only appears in the passing, she casts long shadows. So do Hannah and John. The novel is populated with compelling characters, including the ghosts of the manor’s past. Readers will be swept away immediately by the eerie setting, but it’s Paul’s fighting will to survive that will keep them turning pages late into the night. A stunner through and through.
