Marion spins a fantastical narrative that seamlessly intertwines magic, reality, folklore, and witty dialogue for an uproarious tale in her imaginary latest middle grade read. Lucy and Dee are polar opposite but still the best of friends. Sensible, cautious, and intelligent Dee is living with Aunt Delia and is struggling to come to terms with the mysterious disappearance of his parents. Lucy is all for adventure and exploration. When the Lord of Rocks offers them a magical mission on the Summer Solstice, the duo agrees immediately, unaware of the dangers awaiting them ahead. Imaginative and immersive, Marion’s whimsical fantasy world is full of diverse characters, where magic feels right at home and explorers and geeks will feel equally welcome. While Lucy and Dee’s dynamic relationship is at the forefront of the story, every character is fully fleshed-out, each possessing unique gifts and drives. Dee, with his intelligence, sensibility, and affinity for science, gets more opportunities to shine though. Along the way, Marion skillfully explores courage, curiosity, determination, resilience, open-mindedness, and self-discovery. Imaginative and entertaining, the novel asks readers to discover hidden depths within themselves while learning to see the world in a new light. Un-put-downable.
