Doug Dorsey is an award-winning and bestselling author. Among his books are Never Alone, Broken Hero, The Deception, The Red Ledger, The Betrayal and Kick Ball Slay: An Introduction to West Coast Swing… And a Murder Mystery. He’s a former prosecuting attorney from the North Florida area and spent over 15 years fighting crime. In 2010, the Mayor of Jacksonville declared him the top advocate for victims in the 4th Circuit’s judicial system. He also formerly served as faculty for the prestigious National District Attorneys Association. Doug Dorsey graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 2000, and currently practices law with his father, William J. Dorsey, Esquire. He’s also an award-winning filmmaker and a dance instructor, teaching both West Coast Swing and Country 2-Step.

Do you Google yourself?

Yes, and it’s mostly a bunch of articles about a has-been hockey player turned figure skater named Doug Dorsey. It did make for a good movie though. “Toe[1]pick!”

What are your favorite books?

One Man by Dr. James G.T. Nealis is a definite favorite. Eternity written by his son – James Nealis, IV – is a fascinating read also.

How did you decide which form or genre was right for you?

I spent over a decade and a half fighting crime so writing a detective series was right up my alley. The dance world is also full of suspense/intrigue so I knew it would make for a compelling subject matter.

Does your family support your career as a writer?

I’m pretty sure they think I’m crazy. But they’re also incredibly supportive and I don’t know what I’d do without them.

Is writer’s block real?

No, it’s… um… dang, I can’t think of anything interesting to write at the moment. Hopefully something will come to me.

Would you rather read a book or watch television?

I ran a cinematography company for a long time so this is a hard one. There are pros and cons to both. For now, I’ll say read a book… but that’s only because it’s my current passion. If Kick Ball Slay gets made into a movie, then I reserve the right to change my opinion.
