Author interview

Two strangers develop an unlikely relationship in a moving exploration of love, longing, and fate in McCoy’s poignant latest romance. Augustus Owens is handsome and fun. Elsie McCormick is ordinary and shy. When their paths cross, it’s love at first sight. But an unexpected incident force the couple to part ways. When Elsie is brought into the ER in a serious condition under Augustus’s care, it seems fate has another plan for the couple. This character-driven tale is filled with a healthy dose of tension, emotion, and a little sappy indulgence thrown as a treat. It’s easy to get swept up in Auggie and Elsie’s love story, and readers will find themselves rooting for the pair to get their happily-ever-after. The story moves quickly with plenty of suspense and tension in the background, and the twisty reveals keep the pages turning. However, McCoy keeps her focus on the relationships of the characters: the third-person omniscient narrative voice deftly gives voice to the characters’ fears, insecurities, motivations, and angst. The heartfelt ending manages to surprise and satisfy at once. Between a delicious love story, fierce friendships, and heartbreaking grief, McCoy addresses a number of complex issues, such as pain, grief, trauma, trust, fate, self-realization, and second chances. A deeply moving and gripping tale that takes readers on a roller-coaster ride of love and destiny.
