Scott’s charming and irresistible book takes readers on an unnamed protagonist’s wild and imaginative journey through childhood, beginning with their squiggly worm-like movements as a newborn to their chameleon-like crawling at age one. As each page is turned, the reader witnesses the narrator growing and evolving in various ways—from cute and silly to grumpy and fierce. And let’s not overlook the delightfully creative comparisons scattered throughout the story: inquisitive as a cat, indolent as a sloth, active as a bee. These whimsical analogies not only bring out laughter but also teach children about comparing things and recognizing similarities and differences. It’s almost like sneaky cognitive growth disguised within a fun and relatable package. But this isn’t just a story about differences, it’s a celebration of the wild and wacky stages of growing up. It invites kids to explore their own quirks and achievements, while also recognizing the strange journey we all take towards becoming fully-grown humans. Scott also throws in a mix of counting and animal trivia, giving the reader a fun-filled education on the characteristics of the animal kingdom. The illustrations are mind-bogglingly gorgeous, perfectly capturing the quirky and spirited nature of the narrator. A must-have that will surely be revisited countless times with glee.
