Rich in sumptuous emotions despite its sports romance theme, Swenson’s steamy debut in the Gods of the Gridiron series sets pulses racing with its fascinating blend of romance, Greek mythology, and the tension of a thriller. The handsome, impulsive Travis Redmond, the star player of the Atlanta Gladiators, is back in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas after a temporary suspension from the game. Crossing paths with the lovely Skyla Larson, the assistant district attorney and his former classmate from Brevidge High, throws him in the middle of a dangerous situation. With their lives in danger, the pair escapes to a secluded location, but fighting the undeniable chemistry that lies between them is entirely another thing. Swenson slowly reveals the couple’s troubled history and their tumultuous adolescent years, and the scorching hot love scenes are perfectly balanced with poignant meditations on the destructiveness of trauma and loss. The couple’s bittersweet struggles as they try to deal with their troubled past lends some of the story’s most touching moments. Travis and Skyla’s non-stop banter adds a lighthearted counterpoint to the story’s serious themes. Romance fans should thrill the wonderfully crisp prose, the intelligent plotting, the topnotch characterization, and the lead pair’s palpable chemistry.
This affecting romance is a delight.
