When another deal goes haywire, the hapless real estate developer Bo knows he must find a way to keep the bank from taking him down. Doug, an unemployed ex-con, who is simply trying to look after his orphaned nephew Steve, a young man who spent his childhood shuffling from home to home in the foster system, has an idea for a quick payday, but he needs more partners. He immediately enlists the help of his old ally Phil, a recovering alcoholic turned AA sponsor. Steve also comes on board along with Bo. Their financial troubles will vanish but getting caught is a possibility they want to consider. Collin deftly blends the small-town charm of a rural Midwest community into his gripping heist drama, as the group succeeds in implementing their carefully constructed plan. He skillfully uses all the usual genre elements, including thrilling action, relentless suspense, meticulous investigative details, and a motley crew of desperate people trying to survive in impossible situations. The human drama is easily matched by the high-stake action, which includes the group’s chilling brushes with danger and death. Despite a bit of too many convincing situations, this is a fast-paced, thrilling roller-coaster ride with high stakes. Add plenty of twists and exciting set pieces to the mix, and you’ve got a winner.
