Harton delivers a winsome love story between a young woman and a single father. When Anna Kinser, an event coordinator, meets the bossy and adorable eight-year-old Emily who asks Anna to date her dad, Nathan, Anna is flabbergasted. But Nathan is single and gorgeous. Anna soon finds herself falling for the man, unaware he is carrying a heavy burden from the past.   Harton’s novel is a carefully plotted, engrossing romance with plenty of twists and turns. Her prose is crisp, and her three-dimensional protagonists with their elaborate backstories are easy to root for as they navigate the ups and lows of their lives while finding their way to one another. Nathan is easy to crush on: he’s sweet, sincere, and sensitive. He and Lydie are from different backgrounds, and the conflict between them, though short-lived, is richly layered. Anna and Finley are equally compelling. But it’s the feisty little Emily who steals the show. Anna and Nathan’s gradually budding relationship is made even more enticing by a healthy dose of poignant emotion, human drama, and Emily’s precocious behavior. Harton skillfully links diverse plotlines in a tightly woven narrative, putting forth an uplifting message about how sometimes the best comes after experiencing the worst, and how despite everything life is still beautiful. A heartwarming romance that hits all the right notes.
